About
VB4, VB5 and VB6 developers are a dying breed. I'm Adrian Schaal, Founder of VB Rescue — and one of the few specialists in the UK still actively working with legacy Visual Basic.
I started writing Visual Basic in 1997 — I've seen these systems built, evolve, and outlast every prediction of their demise.
Working with Visual Basic 6 since its heyday — and still going. I know every quirk, runtime error, and edge case the language throws at you.
Microsoft ended VB6 support in 2008. Yet it continues to power critical systems in manufacturing, logistics, finance and local government throughout the UK.
Computer science graduates have never touched it. The pool of people who can genuinely fix and extend VB6 systems is tiny — and shrinking every year.
Why VB Rescue
VB6, VB.NET and C# — all three. That means I can stabilise your existing system today and migrate it to modern .NET when you're ready, without switching developers.
Every job is quoted as a fixed price before work begins. No hourly rate surprises, no scope creep charges. You know exactly what you'll pay — full stop.
I'm based near Cambridge, work UK business hours, and understand the kinds of industries and systems common here. Available remotely across the UK — no offshore handoffs, no timezone delays.
I'll always tell you upfront if a job is outside my scope or not worth pursuing. I don't take on work I can't deliver — and if a diagnostic reveals something unfixable, there's no charge for our time.
